SFA Honors Four
Last month, UMD School of Fine Arts honored four individuals with the Society of Prometheans award. The recipients were jazz musician Erwin (Bernie Bernstein); professor and artist Cheng-Khee Chee; arts patron Alice O' Connor, and actress and vocalist Suzanne Warmanen. The award recognizes those "who have demonstrated success and passion in their chosen professions and contributed to the success of SFA programs."
Alumna Stays in Touch
Janet Petersen was always on the go when she attended the Duluth State Teachers College in the 1930s, and she remains active. This vibrant 95-year-old plays golf, writes poetry, and drives her friends to church. She's had season tickets to UMD men's hockey for years. Peterson has served on the alumni board since 1996 and now enjoys the title of Director Emeritus.
Foreign Correspondent
UMD alum, Eric Gustafson, majored in international studies, took journalism, and wrote for the
Statesman. In 2002, he uncovered illegal practices in bookkeeping at London's Selfridges department store. Now, as a foreign correspondent for the London based magazine
The Economist, Gustafson has traveled the world reporting on war, politics, and the human condition in Iraq, Central America and the U.S.
Vote for Bob
UMD's Head Football Coach, Bob Nielson, is running for the Coach of the Year Award in NCAA Division II and needs your votes! Liberty Mutual grants the award to the coach who has the most fan votes by Dec. 6. Coaches are awarded for their good sportsmanship on and off the field with $50,000 to give to charity.
