The UMD Student Body in Fall 2007

  • The total student enrollment was 11,184.
  • The student body included 5,710 men and 5415 women.
  • 9,184 students were undergraduates.
  • 17.1 percent of UMD students came from northeastern Minnesota.
  • 37.2 percent came from the Twin Cities metro area.
  • 666 students stated they were minority. Minorities represented included Hispanic, African American, American Indian, and Asian American.
  • 168 international students attended UMD.
  • 886 students enrolled through Continuing Education.
  • 95 percent of undergraduates enrolled full time.
  • The average age of UMD students with known birthdates is 21; 11 percent are 25 or older.
  • 27 percent of students live in university housing.
  • Approximately 190 students will participate in the Undergraduate Research Opportunties Program (UROP) during 2007-2008, receiving funding of aproximately $193,000.
  • 919 students were in graduate or professional programs.

The Entering Class of Fall 2007

  • 32 percent of the total enrollment were new students at UMD.
  • Of the new high school students for which a high school rank was provided (2,216):
    • 15 percent graduated from the top 10 percent of their high school graduating class.
    • 61 percent graduated from the top 35 percent of their high school graduating class.
    • 85 percent graduated in the top half of their class.
  • The average ACT composite score for freshmen completing the enhanced ACT is 23.3.
  • 67 percent of students living in university housing are new students.

The Graduating Class of 2005-2006

  • 1627 students earned bachelors degrees.
    • Labovitz School of Business and Economics: 355 graduates
    • College of Education and Human Service Professions: 421 graduates
    • School of Fine Arts: 105 graduates
    • College of Liberal Arts: 417 graduates
    • Swenson College of Science and Engineering: 329 graduates
  • 214 students earned masters degrees.
    • College of Education and Human Service Professions: 31 graduates
    • College of Liberal Arts: 5 graduates
    • Swenson College of Science and Engineering: 24 graduates
    • Graduate School: 154 graduates
  • In 2005-2006, 51 students completed their second year of medical school at UMD.
