There was something for everyone at the UMD Alumni Decade of the 60s Reunion in Duluth July 31- August 1. The reunion kicked off Thursday night with a welcome reception at the Inn on Lake Superior, reunion headquarters. Word has it that the Pickwick filled up afterwards with many UMD alumni, continuing to enjoy connecting with one another. Nemadji was the host of a golf outing and lunch on a beautiful Friday morning. Friday afternoon, attendees enjoyed the opportunity to tour the Tweed Museum and stop by open houses at their collegiate units, ROTC and Athletics while visiting with staff and faculty. It was standing room only for John DeSanto’s
talk and tour of Glensheen Historic Estate, followed by a social hour on the lovely Glensheen terrace over-looking Lake Superior. Next, guests enjoyed the wonderful music of the North Shore Big Band in Weber Music Hall on the UMD campus. Nearly all the musicians were alumni and faculty. Dancing under the stars to the popular Whitesidewalls Rock ‘N roll Revue Band in Ordean Court and munching on Sammy’s pizza capped off a fabulous Friday evening. On Saturday, Alumni toured the campus and were amazed by the changes since they had attended UMD. On Saturday afternoon, after a delicious Famous Dave’s barbeque lunch, UMD hockey greats from the 60s faced-off at the Duluth Heritage Sports Center for a light-hearted game, to the delight of friends, family and local fans. Saturday evening at the DECC was lovely with the tall-ships in the background, and memorable, as Mike Dean, former alumni board president, received Chancellor’s Distinguished Service Award. The Duluth Woman’s Club was a perfect venue for Sunday brunch, the last official reunion event. Many thanks to all who attended the reunion and also to our generous sponsors, Arrowhead Printing, Sammy’s Pizza, and Cash Wise Liquor.
