Obtaining Permission Numbers

You just found out you need to get a permission number to register for a course. What do you need to do? Follow these steps.

1. Identify the instructor of the course you would like to get into. Instructors are listed on the online course schedule. Click on their name to obtain contact information.

2. Contact the instructor via e-mail or phone. State your case for needing to get into the course. It is entirely at the instructor’s discretion whether he or she will allow a student into a closed course.

3. After obtaining permission number, register online or call the Continuing Education registration office at 218-726-8113.

Permission numbers may be required if:

  • Course has reached capacity and is closed.
  • Course has prerequisites.
  • Course has a set start date and it is past that date.
  • Instructor approval is required.
  • You have been placed on academic probation. Please contact your academic advisor for information on how to work your way out of probation.

Permission numbers are not required if:

  • Course has openings.
  • Course states that you can register anytime. 16 week, “Register Anytime” Individualized Instruction Courses do not require permission numbers if the course has not reached the enrollment cap.
