Dr. Jiann-Shiou Yang

Professor and Head of the Department

On behalf of the faculty and staff, I would like to welcome you to the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Minnesota Duluth!

The Department of Computer Engineering was established by the University of Minnesota Board of Regents in 1983, and accepted its first students in September of that year; the Department took its present name, Electrical and Computer Engineering on December 15, 1994. Over the years, the number of students in the program has increased steadily, and we currently enroll about 200 students. We also started the M.S.E.C.E. program in Fall 2003. The Department has nine regular faculty, three adjunct faculty, and two 3M McKnight visiting professors. Our faculty have been active in research, teaching, and service for the University and the Community.  Our students are tops in their academic accomplishments as well as being active in extra-curricular professional activities including the student branch of the Institute for Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). Student involvement in working with faculty on their research projects has also grown dramatically. We pride ourselves on our strong teaching, research, and learning culture in the Department. Our graduates have been successful in finding excellent jobs in the fields of electrical and computer engineering, working for large as well as small companies. We are very pleased with our accomplishments, with our students, and with our graduates. We hope to pursue our activities vigorously, and to continue to attract excellent students to our program. Please explore these web pages to get a glimpse of the ECE program at UMD.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the Department at 218-726-6147 or ece@d.umn.edu or myself at 218-726-6290, e-mail jyang@d.umn.edu.
