Note to All Prospective Students:
Many graduate programs require that separate program application materials be sent to them directly in addition to the Graduate School application. Also, some programs admit for only one term during the academic year.
If you have not already done so, you should immediately contact your major program or visit their web site for information about financial aid, start dates, deadlines, and any other additional program application materials you may be required to submit. Programs that require such materials will not consider the Graduate School application for admission until they receive these materials.
Please Note: An application fee of $55 ($75 for international applicants) must be paid via the online application system. This fee cannot be waived or deferred, and is not refundable.
You MAY be considered for admission with unofficial
transcripts/credentials. However, if you are admitted, you will be required to submit official transcripts/credentials prior to registering and enrolling at the University of Minnesota Duluth.
You must report on your application and submit transcripts/credentials from ALL institutions of higher learning including partial or incomplete transcripts/credentials.
You may be considered for admission with transcripts/credentials submitted the following ways:
- Mailed photocopies
- Legible faxed copies
- Mailed unofficial copies as long as they were issued with your name and the name of the institution on them.
- Official copies sent directly from your institutions to the University of Minnesota
(The Graduate School reserves the right to require the submission of official transcripts/credentials any time during the admission review process).
If you are admitted, we will require official transcripts/credentials before you will be allowed to register. Instructions on how to submit these, if they are needed, will be included in your letter of admission from the UMD Graduate School Office.
For initial review, transcripts can be faxed to:
FAX number 612-625-6002
The address for submitting unofficial or official transcripts by mail is:
Graduate School Office of Admissions
Attention: Duluth Programs
University of Minnesota

Note that even though you are applying for admission to a program on the Duluth campus, transcripts should be sent to The Graduate School Office of Admissions in Minneapolis.
As soon as your application materials have been processed, you will receive notice via e-mail indicating that your application file is complete or if anything is missing.
Note to Prospective International Applicants:
International applicants to Graduate School programs at the University of Minnesota Duluth must provide evidence of English language proficiency. While applications may be considered complete for initial evaluation purposes prior to receipt of this evidence, The Graduate School will not be able to admit such applicants until official evidence is received. For detailed information on the English language proficiency requirements, see www.d.umn.edu/grad/TOEFLrequirements/
