Chem 150: Playing a Video Tape

  1. Obtain the keys.
  2. Unlock and open the equipment cabinet door.
  3. Lower the screen.
  4. Turn on the classroom technology control system.
  5. Press the DVD/ VHS button on the control panel.
  6. Turn on the closed caption converter if needed.
  7. Turn on the VCR.
  8. Insert the videotape into the VCR.
  9. The tape should play automatically, if it doesn't press "Play".
  10. Adjust the sound.
  11. Adjust the lighting.
  12. Remove your tape and turn off the VCR.
  13. Turn off the system.
  14. Raise the projection screen.
  15. Close and lock the equipment cabinet door.

1. Obtain the keys.

The equipment cabinet key may be requested by departments or by faculty teaching in this room.

Classroom keys and building master keys do not open these locks. Departments with faculty or staff needing access to the AV /computer equipment may want to have a key in their department office available for checkout. Or faculty and staff who make frequent use of classroom equipment may want to request a key for their personal use. In either case, a key request card must be completed, signed by the Dean or Department Head, and delivered to Facilities Management Key Shop. "AV Cabinets" must be printed at the top of the card to specify that the requested key is for the equipment cabinet and not for the room itself. A separate key request card for the room must be completed to obtain a room key.

2. Unlock and open the equipment cabinet door.

A.V. equipment is located in the equipment cabinet/podium at the front of the room. This cabinet has two locks. Use the equipment cabinet key to unlock them.

One lock is located at the top, right side of the cabinet door.

Then open the doors.

3. Lower the screen.

The screen control is in the instruction table. Use the Chem 150 equipment key to unlock and open these doors.

The equipment cabinet door locks are located on the cabient above the door handles.

The projection screen in Chem 150, is raised and lowered by an electric motor. To lower the screen, press the Down arrow button on the screen control switch. This switch is located in the top middle portion of the AV cabinet.

The screen control down arrow button is the third button vertically on the control switch plate.

Press the button once and release it. The screen will automatically stop in the correct down position.

4. Turn on the classroom technology control system.

This classroom is equipped with a control system panel that eliminates individual remote controls and power switches.

The control panel is located on top of the podium.

It is on the right side in the top right corner.

Press the ON button.

This button is the top, right one on the control panel.

The projector will begin warming up. After two to three minutes the projector will be ready for use.

5. Press the DVD/VHS button on the control panel.

Press the DVD/VHS button.

This button is on the right side of the control panel, second from the bottom.

6. Turn on the closed caption converter if needed.

The close caption converter is located in the equipment cabinet. Press the closed caption power button.

The closed caption decoder power button is on the right side of the unit.

A red indicator light shows when it is on.

7. Turn on the VCR.

The DVD/ VCR combo unit is located in the podium/instructor station.

It has both a VCR and a DVD player in a single  unit.

The unit has two sections.

The DVD controls are clustered on the right side and the VCR controls are clustered on the left side of unit.

Press the POWER button.

The power button is the left most button on the front of the player.

The unit will turn on and the power indicator will illuminate.

8. Insert the videotape into the VCR.

The tape insertion area is located in the front left section of on the face on the VCR.

9. The tape should play automatically. If it doesn't press Play.

The power button is the third button from the the left on the front of the player.

10. Adjust the sound.

There are two volume buttons. Press the second button from the top on the left side of the control panel to increase the volume. Press the button directly below that one to decrease the volume.

You raise, or lower it.

11. Adjust the lighting.

The projector provides the best picture quality and brightness in a dark or dimly lit room. The window shades are lowered and raised by an electronic motor. The shades control switch is located in the top middle portion of the AV cabinet. Lower the switch to the down position.

The shades control is the middle switch.

Now adjust the lighting. The lighting control switches are located on the left wall of the room near both exits. You might want to experiment to find the best lighting option for your purposes. The left control panel has on/off switches for the overhead and front lecture lights. The right panel (front of the room only) controls the small round lights with an on/off button and sliding dimmer adjustment.

It is a good idea to adjust the lights after you have set up so you can see the controls better.

The overhead lights are the left and middle switches.  The front lecture lights is the right switch. The dimmer control is located on a plate to the right of all the other light switches.

12. Remove your tape and turn off the VCR when you are finished.

Press the eject button to remove your tape.

The stop/eject button is the first button from the the left on the front of the player.

Press the power button to turn the VCR off.

The power button is the left most button on the front of the player.

13. Turn off the system.

This button is the top, left one on the control panel.

The projector lamp will turn off. Approximately one second after that the, lamp will be cooled for about a minute. Then the system will be completely shut off.

14. Raise the projection screen.

To raise the screen, press the Up arrow button on the screen control switch. This switch is located in the top middle portion of the instruction cabinet.

15. Close and lock the equipment cabinet door.

Close and lock the doors using the equipment key.

One lock is located at the top, right side of the cabinet door.
