Running the Quickstart Security Wizard
The QuickStart Security Wizard is required for Windows 95, 98, ME, 2000 and XP computers. It checks your computer for the following five items:
- Is file and printer sharing disabled?
- Is Windows XP Firewall enabled?
- Is Windows Automatic Update enabled?
- Is a current version of Symantec Anti-virus installed?
- Is the Symantec AV virus definition file current?
How do I run Quickstart?
When you start the registration process, if your computer requires the QuickStart Security Wizard your web browser will be automatically redirected to the QuickStart web page:

- What happens if my computer fails one of the checks?
- If your computer fails any of the checks, the problem(s) must be corrected before the you can continue with the registration. The first three items (File and Printer Sharing, Firewall and Automatic Update) can be quickly fixed by selecting the "Fix It" button that will be displayed. If yourecomputer does not have a current version of Symantec AV or current definition files, you will need to downloaded and install it, then run QuickStart again.
- How many times do I need to run the Quickstart Wizard?
- You will need to run the Quickstart Wizard once each semester for ResNet. To use the same computer on our wireless network, you will need to run it a second time while connected to the wireless network.
- What if I get error messages while trying to run Quickstart?
- Call the ITSS Help Desk for assistance at x8847.
