Adding classes
You may add courses during the first two weeks of
a term after registration, provided you get the instructor's approval.
After the second day of the term, the instructor, department office,
or collegiate office will enter an approval code so you can register,
or they will give you a class permission number to enter when
you add the course. Courses may not be added after the second week of
the term.
If you wish to add a class that is closed, you first
must see the instructor; then, visit the appropriate department to find
out about waiting lists and policies. The department, instructor, or
collegiate office will either enter an approval code so you can
register, or give you a class permission number which you will
use when you register for the course.
UMD introduced wait listing as part of the Web enrollment system starting
with Fall 2004 enrollment. Students will be eligible to wait list for
courses offered through selected departments as indicated by "Wait
List available" appearing next to the class in the Class Schedule
or Class Search. The Wait List option will be evaluated at the end of
the Fall 2004 enrollment period to determine if it will be offered to
more departments for use during the next enrollment period.
For courses not using the Web wait list you should first go to the
department offering the course, where you may be put on a manual waiting
list or be referred to the instructor for permission to register. Attend
the first class meeting if you are on a waiting list or need the instructor's
permission, to see if more students will be admitted. To register for
a closed course you must have a class permission number from the instructor.
All class permission numbers expire at the end of the second week of
classes. After the second week you must go to your college office for
approval.
If you want to take more than 20 credits in a term
you must petition through your collegiate unit. That office checks your
GPA to make sure that you can handle the amount of work.
